By now, you’re very likely aware of the many, many reasons to accept credit and debit cards as methods of payment at your place of business. But, then again, if this is your first visit to the Canadian POS Corporation website, you may be new to the concept of trading in your cash-only business for a plastic-friendly practice. If so, we encourage you to take a look at our past couple of blogs.
You may notice that they are listed in the right sidebar of our website, directly beside the blog you’re reading now. But before you peruse through those very informative entries, allows us to add yet another reason why accepting credit cards is so very important in today’s day and age. Online shopping is arguably becoming the most popular way for people to make purchases these days.
Of course, you will always have customers coming into your store to buy your goods. Well, we certainly hope so anyway. But online shopping is a growing trend that is definitely not slowing down any time soon. What that means is that an increasing number of shoppers are taking to the internet to both browse and purchase items before even entering any stores.
That means that it’s time to get your website in tip-top shape, if it isn’t already. As you can imagine, having an easy-to-navigate, user-friendly site is only bound to increase the number of visitors and therefore, potential buyers that you get. Furthermore, you’ll need a way to allow your online customers to check out. And you know what means. They’ll be pulling out their credit cards. Are you ready to accept them?
You don’t have to take our word for it, of course. As we usually do in our blogs, we like to research the internet – just like most Canadian shoppers – to find what others are saying about the phenomena that are popular in our industry. And perhaps, 660 News puts it the most plainly: “Canadians love to buy with the click of a mouse.” Their website elaborates as to how they came to this conclusion.
“According to a poll for Ebates.ca,” it reads, “77 per cent of Canadians say they have made an online purchase in the past year and 32 per cent report spending more online in the last 12 months than in previous years.” Those are pretty telling numbers. It’s safe to say that, in 2014, most Canadians shop using the worldwide web. That also, of course, means that most Canadians are shopping using their credit cards.
As 660 News points out, this isn’t surprising. At least it isn’t to the general manager of Ebates.ca, Adrienne Down-Coulson. “To us it’s pretty obvious,” she was quoted as saying, “because we’ve been growing like crazy and we see more and more retailers coming online for Canadians; charging Canadian dollars instead of US dollars finally — and also starting to offer better shipping prices.”
You can’t forget about convenience when it comes to online shopping. This is especially true during the holidays. Think about it. What’s better? Making purchases from the comfort of your home that will be shipped directly to you, or making your way into a crowded mall to search high and low for your gifts? Make your life and the lives of your customers easier. Accept credit cards today and sell your items online!
