Gift Cards Make Great Father’s Day Gifts

Today is the last day of May. With June starting tomorrow, we will officially begin celebrating the Dad’s Month! Okay, well maybe not exactly. However, Sunday, June 16th is Father’s Day. And that means people all over Canada will be on the hunt for special gifts to commemorate their poppas in the weeks to come. Is your store prepared?

Readers of the Canadian POS Blog are well aware that gift cards make great gifts for any occasion. But, it can be argued that no day is better for using a gift card as a gift than Father’s Day. Why? Most dads aren’t exactly known as shopaholics. Between their busy schedules and the fact that many aren’t big fans of shopping, gift cards provide fathers with the perfect opportunities to buy whatever they like while getting in and out of their favourite stores in a hurry.

What does your dad love?

Now might be the perfect time of year to grab a gift card that will help your father enjoy an upcoming sporting event. The current success of the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals has the entire country of Canada in an excited frenzy. If you can’t find any Raptors or (insert your dad’s favourite sports team here) gear, get him a gift card that will allow him to attend a forthcoming sporting event in his area.

“Does dad love sports?” asks Shelley Hunter on GiftCards.com, “Get him a gift card to an upcoming baseball game, a box of Cracker Jacks and a bag of peanuts. (You know how the seventh-inning stretch song goes). Deliver it all with some game-day gear or even just a copy of the team’s upcoming schedule. Add a note that reads, ‘Have a ball on Father’s Day.’”

Involve the whole family!

You know what most dads really love? Spending time with their families! Consider giving your dad a gift card that will get the entire family involved. We’re thinking dinner. Your dad’s favourite restaurant is bound to sell gift cards. By offering him a gift card at his favourite restaurant, you’ll be turning his present into an occasion the entire family can enjoy. Hunter offers a great idea for how to present your dad with this card.

“Get dad a gift card to his favourite restaurant and deliver it with a homemade dish that complements the gift card,” she details, “Make a homemade apple pie to go with an Applebee’s gift card. Make a jar of homemade salsa to go with a gift card to his favourite Mexican restaurant. Bring over a pot of chili to go with a gift card to Chili’s. Dad can eat one meal now and enjoy the gift card later.”

As a store owner, you can’t afford to not sell gift cards.

Just in case we haven’t made this point extremely clear, there is no reason for any retailer to not sell gift cards. Cash in on Father’s Day shopping by offering the gift that makes gift-giving easy for shoppers and extremely pleasurable for recipients.
