Proud To Be Canadian

We must admit, we’re feeling a great deal of pride these days, watching the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. As of this writing, Canada is among the medal count leaders with fifteen. Only three countries have more and there are still a lot of Games to go. And we’re guaranteed a medal in Women’s Ice Hockey already. Just yesterday, the women fought to a 3-1 victory over Switzerland.

The win sent them to the gold medal game against their bitter rivals, the Americans. Canada’s women, by the way, have never not played for a gold medal at any level of international competition. That means that they have never finished a tournament doing worse than winning a silver medal. And, as you may have guessed, the result is most often a championship gold.

So while we continue to cheer on our Canadian Olympians, we continue to fight the good fight here at home. There’s something about the Winter Olympic Games that just serve as great reminders that being Canadian is a great thing. We certainly don’t need the Olympics to be proud, of course. But they help to prove how resilient and strong we are as a nation. One of our clients helped to put into perspective just how great the accomplishments of our athletes truly are.

Canadians do, in fact, rock. But to be completely fair, Norway – which, as of this writing – has just as many medals as Canada, has a population of just over 5 million. Apparently, Norwegians rock too! Nevertheless, the swell of Canadian pride can be felt all across the country right now.
